Wow... I actually like typing now!
Never owned a mechanical keyboard before. I don’t think I can go back.
I never owned one before because they were too expensive. However, they are getting a lot cheaper.

Mechanical keyboards are a revelation. I will never go back to a rubber dome board.

Around here people consider them good enough to wear in public.

For the record, I have five mech keyboards. Well, four, with one on order. Wait until you get into customization.....

At work I have a super basic Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600. It is a keyboard. It types. I can type quickly on it. It’s relatively quiet while banging away on the keys. I like that it’s quiet. Going to an extra loud clickety clack mechanical keyboard does not appeal to me because I prefer the nice soft muted clickety clack of cheap keyboards like this one.

the sound a mechanical keyboard makes, all depends on the switches.
Blue switches have the classic loud sounds, while red and browns have very quiet sounds.

Quite a few places out there preaching mech keyboards and most have gone off the deep end into what key to use instead of just enjoying a nice keyboard, however, there are a huge variety of different keys in the Cherry MX line. All different stiffness/noise/travel length combinations. I think the reds are very popular for writers, but honestly the real deal is the Unicomp keyboard form the old days of the IBM PC xt’s and AT’s

I have cheap membrane keyboards which are louder than my Logitech G710+ with MX browns. You can get very loud mechanical keyboards but you can also get quiet ones.

It is rare for me to put on something other than PJs on days when I am not working. Why would I bother to put on less comfortable clothes and make more laundry when I don’t need to go anywhere?

Same, I spend most of my day in Excel. I use a $15 wireless chiclet style keyboard since its better for speed. To each their own, my co-workers would murder me if they heard that clickety clacking all day.

Can the backlight be throttled down?

I also have no desk setup at home, only at work. At my current job I started out with a Dell keyboard that had the stupid rearranged insert, delete, home, end, page up, page down keys in 3 rows of 2 keys instead of 2 rows of 3 keys. I asked for a keyboard with the normal 2 rows of 3 and was given this Microsoft one. I didn’t pay for it. It’s fine.

Just had a mission burrito and became a burrito snob though.
